This this one of my all time favorites as well, even if they have not published so many albums.

Here is a translation (and by Bill overworked version) of a latest interview with Warlord mainman Bill Tsamis:

Warlord-Interview / Bill Tsamis for ROCK HARD-magazine

Bill, you have been away from the radar (at least for the internet community and the Warlord-fans) for quite some time cause you and your wife suffered from diseases. How are you two doing right now?

I have been feeling much better, getting stronger, eating well. It seems my illness has reversed course. Hopefully it stays that way. My wife Vidonne is not so lucky. She will be having major abdominal surgery on January 11 due to the effects of long term intravenous antibiotics which actually saved her life last year from a horrible spinal infection. So she is looking at another dark chapter, but hopefully not as bad as it was this summer.

You are still working at the university, don’t you? What are you teaching right now?

No, actually I'm on extended "sick leave." I can go back whenever I want to because of tenure but when I was sick, I did a lot of thinking, and I decided to devote myself entirely to music, my first love. I had 15 good years of lecturing in philosophy, theology, biblical studies, critical thinking, logic and Eastern Religions, and so on, and I met some of the best people on the planet in that college environment - colleagues and students (many which have gone on to academic teaching and many which are all one the world doing humanitarian work all over the world.)

Some questions to you as a studied theologian and philosopher: Right now, there is a discussion on certain topics in the Metal scene right now. What do you think about spirituality in rock music?

I don't pay much attention to it. I'm probably very ignorant of it. I think a lot of black metal bands engage these dark themes against Christianity to to convey an image of power, I was doing this when I was 14 so I understand. It always surprises be that they don't choose to blaspheme Allah , Odin, Zeus. or the Aztec god Tezcalatilpoca because they don't know anything about these gods. They're simply ignorant about and the God of Judeo-Chrisianity and Chritainity is an easy target. It doesn't bother me but demontrates to me the intellectual inferiority of the these bands. Blasphemy of Christianity is child's play.

As a matter of fact, you are more on the “white side” of the spirituality discussion. Metalmusic has always been dealing with the devil, too – what do you think about Satan as topic?

I don't consider myself on the "white side" of metal. I write some apocalyptic epics sometimes. I'd rather glorify God than blaspheme him. I am thankful for my life, the air to breathe, a beautiful creation and so on, my talent, my daughter, and so on . . . I can go on in appreciation of what he has done for me. So, I glorify Him.

Do you believe in the existence of Satan itself?

I believe that there is an evil force that wants to destroy souls and lives, and cause havoc on such. "Satan" literally means "the adversary" in the original Hebrew.

Something different: Do you still follow the recent metalscene? Are there any bands and/or musicians that impressed you over the last couple of years?

Yes, I always like Savatage w'Criss Oliva, Kamelot, Masterplan, Yngwie, Jag Panzer, and some others in the traditional style of heavy metal.

Warlord also seemed to have risen up from the ashes. Any news about the new music, new songs etc., the musical direction? Are there one hundred percent new or did you also take old ideas?

The new Warlord song will contain all new songs except for a couple songs (and riffs) that we never record which I have updated. It will represent the "melodicWalord," the "power Warlord," and the "epic Warlord. - it is dedicated to Warlord fans - if other metal fans want to join in then that's great, but I could care less what others think. Lots of choirs and orchestration this time around. It all be a litle bit different but totally heavy and totally Warlord with a lot of Lordian Guard nuances (although with a male singer).

Are you still in contact with the old Warlord reincarnations? Have you spoken to Joacim Cans lately for example?

Once in a while - always friends with Joacim. However, I don't speak to any of the old Warlord members except Mark . . . I have tried to contact Jack Rucker but I never heard anything back. I did talk with Diane Arens a couple of times.

There will be a new edition of all the Warlord-material coming early next year. Have you been involved into the process of creation?

At first I was against the idea because all Warlord fans have all the material. But when I deduced that my new creative endeavor would be Warlord I allowed a small record company (rabid Warlord fans who will promote the hell out of it) to go ahead and do it. I will have complete control over the project including the artwork. Metal Blade wanted to do this project but we turned them down because they never did anything for Warlord. We were also approached by some other independent labels but we decided to go with Arkeyn Steel on this one. Like I said, they are rabid Warlord fans - but I'm more concerned with the new album.
