yep, between my first listening session and later listening sessions there were only little changes about the rating like 0,5 higher or lower. And I often ask myself, if some reviewers really heard the same record. Nevertheless, I look forward to the new tour and hope they only add songs like 'Where clock hands freeze', 'The great Mystery' and 'Black orchid' from this record.

True, most reviews were very misleading. For now Dweller In A Dream sounds better to me also. I will wait until tomorrow to give the album 1 or 2 more listens.

The tour will definitely be the highlight of the year! I have no doubt about it. I can't wait for all the videos from the shows, as I will surely not be able to attend any of them. My hope and dream is the "possible" DVD recording at Masters Of Rock. So if you ever talk to Tobi again please ask him about it ;)

We requested mini interviews to some other musicians from Avantasia (since we already read 100000 interviews with Tobi), but we are still waiting for some answers. This question was one of them. ;)

Here are some more (partly critical) reviews of the new Avantasia album:

This one is from Austria (Dark Scene Metal) who rated 7,5/10:

And here with googleenglish: http://translate.google.de/translate?sl ... 6rf%3Dsn_3

And another review of Avantasia - 'The mystery of Time' of Metal Kaoz in English with a 7/10 rating:

"Once again, Michael Kiske shines with his powerful and diamond-clear voice who takes the songs in a higher level. Take for example the keyboard-driven “Dweller In A Dream” with the smooth bass break that leads to an addictive chorus during which Michael welcomes an almost Hard Rock vibe (yeah, he can sing that way also), while reaching forbidden pitches for many singers of his caliber."

I have been listening to the new album for about 3 days. I have to say that I still support my initial opinion, but some songs have grown on me and others have not:

1. Spectres – Good song with an epic intro, but nothing amazing. The middle part doesn’t really fit and the chorus is just good (it gets tiring after a few listens). 7/10

2. Watchmaker's Dream – One of the weakest songs on the album. 5/10

3. Black Orchid – One of the best songs on the album. 8,5/10

4. Where Clock Hands Freeze – The best song on the album. Kiske's strongest performance on an Avantasia song. It would have been perfect if the guitar solo part was a little longer. 9,5/10

5. Sleepwalking – The weakest song and one of Sammet's worst ballads. 4/10

6. Savior in the Clockwork – This has strangely grown on me. Overall a good song, that also includes one of the better guitar solos on the album. Both Turner and Byford do a better job here than on their "main" songs. Kiske's part is extremely short though. 8/10

7. Invoke the Machine – The song is not bad, but doesn’t do much for me. 6/10

8. What's Left of Me – One of Tobi's best ballads. 8,5/10

9. Dweller in a Dream – This has grown on me also. It is a nice up tempo hard rock/melodic metal song, with a memorable chorus and Kiske doing a good job on it. I still don't like the part before the last chorus. 8/10

10. The Great Mystery – The second best song on the album. An almost excellent track. 9/10

A good album that is better than Angel Of Babylon for me.

I don't know, maybe this is only my opinion, but the sound is nothing special, all material sounds very flat.
"Death Is Just A Feeling" definitely better in Oliva interpretation.

Really sincere and good album by Tobi. It has some of my favorite songs from Avantasia and I think it has one of the best performances from Kiske if not the best from him for Avantasia.

You can hear in the second cd how much good work has been done with the orchestration.

From the listenings I have done I think that is among the best offerings of Tobi with Avantasia and I can't find a bad song. I have listened it to digital format and I bet that in cd format it will be even better. With the digital format it loses much dynamics. In cd format it will be more epic.

Some of my favorite songs are: 3. Black Orchid, 4.Where Clock Hands Freeze, 6.Saviour In The Clockwork, 7.Invoke the machine, 8.What's Left of Me, 9. Dweller In a Dream.

Tobi takes the best from each singer with respect to their music history and this makes it unique.

I have now also the 2 CD edition, but my initial impression didn't change much, it has some very good songs, some good til ok songs, but also some very weak songs. So all in all a good album. ;) And strangely I like a few of the instrumental versions more. :o

I have to say the Earbook edition is the most beautiful edition I have ever seen. Looks really great. It is a hard cover book style in vinyl size. I love it. :D :D :D
